DVD original video: how to upload to my Apple TV

Very fond in documentary videos, I found them online to buy. Problem: only DVD format available.

I can use my Apple USB SuperDrive to copy the content to my MacBook Air , well, I suppose to be allowed to do this.

Then, in the past, all my film picture bought on iTunes store were available on Apple TV automatically.

Is it possible nowadays?

Some copyright restriction applies that prevent me to transfer a legally bought content to Apple TV?

Thank you.

Commercial DVDs usually have copy protection in place. Apple DVD Player software prevents screen mirroring and other capturing methods.

To share content from DVD using Home Sharing, you will have to convert the DVD content into .mp4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, if permitted. However that may not be legal for copy protected content in some countries or regions. Therefore we can’t discuss that here.
