How do I remove an email address that is being used as an alias?

Thanks. Does that mean if I turn off an alias I can no longer use that icloud email account that is being used as the alias?

It will not let me turn it off as it says i have to turn off imessage and facetime, I have but still does not allow me to do it, any clues?
