..Bonditram1:

To use an email client through "Apple Mail" (macOS app) read through Table of Contents

for details to match the situation. (I've never used 'Apple Mail' & run Gmail, via Firefox.)

• Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

• Add email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/guide/mail/add-or-remove-email-accounts-mail35803/12.0/mac/10.14

These differ from other similar (older?) worded article:

• Add an email account to Mail on your Mac - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/en-us/HT204093

• Welcome to Mail on Mac (Table of Contents) - Apple Support

//support.apple.com/guide/mail/toc/12.0

• View email account information in Mail on Mac - Apple Support

Google & others, use rules to handle mail; for items left online in server;

or can be downloaded into your Mac. IMAP vs POP3. [While my iPhone

uses google's Gmail app; works good enough. Nothing like it for Mac.]

Some reference words may be confusing, but the ideas still hold.

'Google Help' often has canned replies, hope you don't need it, beyond

initial setups or general troubleshooting. I did, they failed; so its Firefox.

• Check Gmail through other email platforms (Apple Mail, etc) - Gmail Help

https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?hl=en

"When you use IMAP, you can read your Gmail messages on multiple devices,

& messages are synced in real time. You can also read Gmail messages using POP."

..Almost like being introduced to several other language speakers, without a tutor..🙂

"Email: Still don’t understand.I can use gmail through Chrome but I’d like to use it through Mail on MacBook"

-------

Use the App Password:

Mail is a Third-Party app. And Third-Party mail apps require a passcode. Just think about it. If anyone out these knew a passcode, then anyone could assign it to their device. So, add the account to Mail. However, when signing in, use an App password, rather than the eMail's password. Go here to set this up: Add an eMail Account to Mail on your Mac - Apple Support

Two Factor Authentication:

If you are being prompted to log in to gmail while using a browser, then you might want to use Two-Factor Authentication, for Security & Privacy purposes. Go Here: Turn on 2-Step Verification - Gmail Help - Google

Use an App Password:

Being this is a new device, note that you would need a new App Password, being that Mail is a third party app. You cannot log in using your eMail address password. As an example, go here for gmail: Sign in Using App Passwords - Gmail Help - Google
