My iPad has come up with the restore screen but I don’t have a Mac laptop so what should I do? My iPad does not have a home button but I don’t remember which one it is

Your iPad must be restored:

If you see the Restore screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

These support pages outline the available methods to restore an iPad - either from a backup, or to Factory Settings:

Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch from a backup – Apple Support

Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod to factory settings – Apple Support

Restore all content to iPad from a backup - Apple Support

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

Download and use iTunes for Windows – Apple Support

Update to the latest version of iTunes – Apple Support

Use of a PC or Mac computer is unavoidable. If you don’t have access to a suitable computer of your own, that of a helpful friend or family member will suffice. Alternatively, the technicians at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) will be delighted to assist.

Not sure which iPad you have? Identify your iPad model.

Your iPad, depending upon model, will have either a Lightning or USB-C port. You simply require the correct cable that matches your computer’s USB connector to your iPad. Possible permutations are:

  • USB-C (computer) to USB-C (iPad)

  • USB Type-A (computer) to USB-C (iPad)

  • USB-C (computer) to Lightning (iPad)

Be aware that plug-adapters commonly marketed to connect a USB-C plug to a older style USB port should be avoided. The USB-C specification does not allow the use of “plug adapters”; with USB-C, you should only use an appropriate certified cable, as doing so will protect your relatively expensive USB-C device (in this case, your iPad) from potentially damaging wiring combinations. Certified USB-C cables incorporate protective circuitry that is otherwise absent from plug-adapters.
