What is the danger in conecting a USB-C External HardDrive to my new MacBook Air M1 with Thunderbolt4 conection only

I like to back up my new MacBook Air which has only 2 Thunderbolt4 connections to an external HardDrive but the fear of it not being proper with damaging results is whay I have been searching for the answer, because Apple is not saying that it is the same standard connection, and I do not want to hurt the new computer.

No issue. TB is backward compatible with all USB-C devices. I have mine connected to the TB port and works fine.
