Here are some other things you can try:
1) Shut down your Mac. Hold down Shift as you press the power button and keep holding until the system boots up in Safe Mode. Go into System Preferences >> Bluetooth >> and try to “forget” your Magic Mouse. Then reconnect the mouse (see this Support page for assistance: Set up your Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, or Magic Trackpad with your Mac - Apple Support)
2) If Safe Mode doesn’t work, back up your Mac with Time Machine, then shut down your Mac. Boot it up while holding down Command+R until the Apple logo comes up. Once Disk Utility comes up, select “Reinstall MacOS”. Once this process is finished, sign into your Mac normally and try to connect the Mouse.
Try Safe Mode before trying the second option. Let me know if either of these help. It could possibly be a MacOS glitch, but you should try the steps above and see if the Mouse goes back to normal.

Hi Owen - Your advice worked...sort of. I reinstalled the OS. My original magic mouse still does not work properly BUT I retrieved another magic mouse that I use with my laptop and it connected just fine and functions properly. I had tried this before but to no avail and the folks at the Genius Bar could not get any of their BT mice to work. (The original mouse would connect but only moves in straight lines vertically or horizontally.) I am still unable to get my Bose Soundtouch to work on bluetooth but will tackle that later.
For the moment I am thrilled to have a magic mouse again. You don't realize just how magic it is until it's gone. Thank you.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
If you haven’t already tried to reinstall macOS, it will sometimes fix certain glitches that could’ve happened due to a conflict with macOS. Sometimes reinstalling macOS will fix the issue, so it is similar to being a “clean install”.
Definitely make a Time Machine backup before you reinstall macOS. See my steps above on how to go about doing this. Hopefully this solves your issue. If not, it may be due top something else.
I have similar issues. Mouse and keyboard, which were working, suddenly stopped working. I have often seen the mouse disconnect for no reason. But this had Bluetooth seeing both devices, but not connecting to them. I've seen the Apple page on trying to fix connection issues (no help), and I've seen various posts about using the Reset option in Debug mode off the Bluetooth menu -- but that is no longer in MacOS with Monterey. I've also seen the option of removing com.apple.bluetoothd.plist from /Library/Preferences -- but that plist file is not there. I found it in /system/library/launchdaemons but even after turning off System Integrity Protection (SIP) I can't delete it (even rm -f), change its permissions, change its owner -- I get error "Read-only file system".
Quite a few people have complained about Apple removing the reset option from the Bluetooth menu -- I can see why. Anyone know how to remove this file (in Monterey, not an older system)? Or reset Bluetooth, in Monterey?
This post is a year old. Did you resolve the problem? I installed Monterey about 4-6 weeks ago and my Bluetooth is so messed up. Example: the BT keyboard works fine. The Magic Mouse "connects" but then only moves up and down. Bose Soundtouch says it has connected but no sound comes out. I have been to an Apple store with this problem and told I must "wait". I'm wondering how long....
Thanks for these recommendations. I have tried the Safe Mode with no luck. The fellow at the Genius Bar also tried it (among many other things) and it did not work.
I have not tried the "Reinstall" approach. Is this an equivalent of a "clean install"? Since I have not had trouble when I installed Monterey on my laptop I have been thinking that the problems I'm having on my desktop may be related to some little bit or artifact left over from some previous OS version. This approach makes me nervous. I have backups but it still makes me nervous. Still, if it is a "clean install" it might solve the problem.
Another post had this process. It does appear to reset Bluetooth. It does NOT fix my problem with Monterey not recognizing Magic Keyboard or Magic Mouse.
Apple: Fix this problem !!
Open Terminal app in Utilities.
Enter command: sudu pkill bluetoothd
enter your Mac admin or login Password
It does not give you any indication that the command worked, but I see my Bluetooth devices disappear and then reconnect.
But not my magic mouse??
I'm going to try Reinstall of MacOS next.
None of these work for me.
