Can someone tell me, after I have created a simple list, how to alphabetize that list?

Thanks for your help with this.

This seems a little far afield from printing, but under the Pages menu, look in Services. There is a Service that will sort lines ascending and another that sorts lines descending. (I think this is included with the OS, but if it is not, it is one of the free Service packages from Devon Software. Those are a must for everyone using a Mac.)

There's no straight forward way to do it.

Do this...

Select everything in the list.
Go to menu Format > Table > Convert text to table
Select all cells
Go to the Inspector.
Select Table icon (7th across the top)
Under the Table tab, click the gear after *Edit Rows & Columns* drop down and select *Sort Ascending* (or Descending)
Go to menu Format > Table > Convert table to text

Or it is in the Services menu also. (just saw that)

I'm sorry I haven't responded to this before now. I used the method that Chris suggested and it works just fine. I just wish you didn't have to put everything into cells to sort a list. It sure was a lot easier with a P.C., but then you can't have everything I guess. Anyhow, thanks very much to all of you that answered my post. I really appreciate the help from everyone. Thanks again.

Well that doesn’t work for me. When I make a list, highlight it and then go to “Services” the only options available to me are the following:

Make new sticky note
Import image
Look up in dictionary
Send with Google
New e-mail selection
New note with selection
Services preferences

Maybe I’m missing something, but I don’t see anything in there that says “Sort Lines Ascending.” ???

Sorry Bruce, but I just do not have that option in my "Services Preferences." So I think I'll just pretty much give up on it. I did go to the site that you provided, looked for the "Word Services" you mentioned and downloaded it. When it got finished downloading, I opened it and nothing happened, it doesn't show up on my computer anywhere that I can find, so I am going to just forget the whole thing. I'll just make lists in tables from now on and alphabetize them that way. It's really frustrating to me that Apple wouldn't put such a useful function in this thing right from the get go without having to go through all this stuff, but that's the way it goes I guess. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it very much.

I have found the various Devon Technologies services so useful that they have resided on my computers for a long time, and I have forgotten which come from there, and which are included with the system. To install services, you put the file in Services folder in the Library. If you want them for all the users on your computer, the Services folder in the Library at the root of the hard drive, otherwise in the individual user Library. If there is no Services folder, you just make one.

I really find CalcServices useful. It is great to be able to type a formula like 137*(453+34^(5/7)) and select it and chose Calculate and Append to get = 63761.7249358 added to it!

The same method goes for adding PDF Services, but they go in a PDF Services folder.

Well Bruce, old pal, that is all greek to me. I don't know too much about these Mac computers. Have only had this one a little less than a year and am still trying to learn it. So I'll just get by with things the way they are for now. Thanks for your help with this though, I appreciate the try.

Now I have to go somewhere else in here and find the correct spot to post a question and see if someone can tell me why every time I click on one of the thumbnails in my my photo album, the screen goes black with a big white exclamation point in the middle of it. Thanks again.
