There is no option to use a Windows PC to update a Mac.

The model year of a MacBook is shows at Apple menu > About This Mac.

If you have a MacBook (not a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air) and it is a 2016 or later model, it can be upgraded to Monterey. See: How to upgrade to macOS Monterey - Apple Support

A 2015 model can be upgraded to Catalina. See: How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

A late 2009 or 2010 model can be upgraded to High Sierra.

An early or mid 2009 model can be upgraded to El Capitan
