Updating an iPhone:
Determining if an Update will Install:
How to do so...
I. Verify Compatibility:
Identify your iPhone model. The first thing that comes to mind in incompatibility being the culprit. So, confirm the model of your iPhone. If iPhone model is incompatible with iOS13 and/or iOS14 and/or iOS15 then it is because you iPhone does not meet the hardware requirements for this iOS version(s).
II. If Compatible...
1. Back Up First:
IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update
then...
2. Proceed with the Update:

No, iOS version 15 is compatible with the iPhone 6S Plus (notice the “S”), but not with the 6 Plus.
As I said before, an unit running 12.5.5 isn't capable of 13 or above. No other type of issue will cause it to report that 12.5.5 is up to date.
If they actually have an iPhone 6s or other compatible model, it would have gone from 12.4.1 to 13 or above without going through later versions of 12.

It's just to clarify how to update. The OP seems pretty questionable about their model's compatibility.
I don't see the point in clarifying how to update when someone can't. Either the 6s is a typo or they're confused about what model they have; while they could have any of several from the posted information, none of them is capable of 13 or above.

I am not confused because I went into the settings and on the apple website it says that iOS 15.01 Is compatible with iPhone 6 Plus And I was trying to get that update so I can download apps that require 14.0 and above
An unit running 12.5.5 isn't capable of 13 or above. It also won't be an iPhone 6s Plus.

Yes, iOS version 15 is compatible with the iPhone 6S Plus, but not with the 6 Plus. I’m guessing that your phone is an iPhone 6 variant rather than iPhone 6S variant.
