Are you on macOS 11.6.4, or macOS 12.2.1? If not either, update the operating system.

I had this issue with a new 2021 16-in MacBook Pro M1 Pro until I updated it to 12.2. The other side-effect of this is that charging would not occur without the device powered and the lid open. The update fixed it.
