is the memory in the apple tv box for storing movies like a DVR? Not clear on how to save a movie for later?

No. The Apple TV box is a streaming device. All content comes in over the network. You can’t save a movie for later on the box.


The hard disk inside the Apple TV box is used for system software, apps, settings, and (temporary) cache files.


Several linear TV providers offer “Cloud DVR”, to store programs on their servers, linked to your account, ready for playback within their own app.

VOD content providers have no need for recording, as all shows are on demand.
