update regrets iOS 14.8->15.2

I updated to 15.2 when Apple stopped offering an update path choice and 15.2 was the only choice to continue with security updates. I wasn't interested in the many social media or game feature updates.

The update went smoothly... regrets started immediately. I expected a corresponding update for my watch as previous updates. I opened the watch App to check for updates, since my watch was charging anyway... I was met by stupidity! App refused to give me current watchOS info until I:

  • removed watch from charger
  • put it on
  • unlocked watch (returned watchOS version)
  • then as expected , removed the watch
  • put it on charger to reach minimum 50% (where it was to begin with!)
  • update watchOS

this odd procedure fortunately seems to have gone away

Issues:

"What was Apple thinking?"

Focus, just a more convoluted way to get to Do Not Disturb settings. On the plus side, at least turning on do not disturb until morning, seems to actually work 1st time now from the iPhone. From the watch on the other hand was less obvious. watch offered only ...until evening

even though it actually sets until morning... appears fixed in last update.

Settings: Bug: stops responding to touch. Have to abort & restart Settings. Bug still persists in 15.3.1. Isn't anyone doing regression testing??

"strange/unwanted features"

    • OCR icon on pictures. I'd like to make this go away. For me a very rarely desired function... just visual clutter.
    • on watch, Messages now have App store icon & inexplicable SMS bubble. more visual clutter.

IMHO, bug fixes & security patches should be highest priority, along with regression testing...

Maybe there should be 2 versions of iOS? A Corporate/business version for more serious users, including businesses. And a Social/gamers version, for those more interested in playing games, and things like animated emoticons...
