Downgrade MacOS

I need to downgrade my software from Monterey to Big Sur, once I download the link from the website, I click on it and this is the message I get:

Install MacOs Big Sur cannot be opened from a newer version of macOS.

How can I do this?

How to downgrade to MacOS Monterey? Weirdly, this felt to me a most buggy MacOS I have ever used in my life. I have battery start dropping very quickly everyday, and battery health was plummeted as well. Many apps have weird bugs and the Mac have performance that was at least 10% slower than the last OS. Is Apple going to fix this quickly because I want to downgrade to Monterey but just have no idea how to get started on doing so, and so I hope Apple can fix MacOS Ventura quickly. 3/10 for MacOS Ventura for now. Clean Install macOS Ventura I have a little OCD, so on previous Macs, would format the SSD before reinstalling the latest version of macOS. I’ve just purchased a 16 inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro. It was pre-installed with macOS Monterey. I upgraded to Ventura then formatted the SSD, but when choosing to reinstall macOS, it reverts to downloading Monterey. Is there any way to clean install macOS and retain Ventura? Thanks in advance.

Clean install of Sierra from Big Sur ? I just bought a used MacBook Air for live music performance ( "Core i7" 1.7 11" Mid-2013 ). It will basically be a single-purpose machine, repeatedly taking music plug-ins, files and settings from my studio production Mac and using them in a live (Ableton) environment. Since my studio Mac runs High Sierra (10.12.6) , to avoid any APFS complications I want to have my Air likewise running 10.12.6 ( it arrived loaded with Big Sur 11.7.1 , but was originally 10.8.4 ). My cautious question is, can I just fire ahead, go to the App Store and do a clean install of Sierra on my Air, or are there possible complications involved in going back to a pre-APFS operating system? (There are currently no files of my own on the machine, it's just out the box...)

That is correct. You cannot downgrade directly. You would need to completely erase your hard drive, removing all data, and then install the older version on the blank drive.

Maker sure you backup all the data and files you want to keep before doing the downgrade. Everything will be erased.
