will a Toshiba canvio 4 TB passport work with a MAC MINI and WIN 10 machine simultaneously for local backup?

You would want to format the disk as ExFAT which will work on both the Mac and Win10 and will allow any size files to be used (FAT32 has a 2GB file size limit).

External Backup Methods Today I connected my WD 'My Passport for MAC' external 2TB drive to my MacBook Air and got the message that my WD device "was no longer supported." So my question is what is the best way to backup my hard drive? To the internet (iCloud) or to a newer external hard drive? What are the advantages / drawbacks of either? That would depend upon the format. You could not write to NTSF with your Mac. You could read it, but, Fat 32 or exfat will read/write for both.
