Virtual Meeting Air Pod Pro Connection

Hi all:

Have seen some other threads about this issue but not a solution. I've got new airpod pros that otherwise work great, but not on virtual meeting calls. They connect allright, but as the meeting goes on, the connection degrades (static) and often drops. Apple support replaced one of them but I'm still having the issue. Happens on Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

Because they otherwise work fine, including listening to music on my 2015 iMac, and iPhone 12 mini, I wonder if its a bluetooth overload issue with the calls. My iMac has a wireless mouse and keyboard. Otherwise, its gotta be a software issue. Any thoughts?

Troubleshooting Static:

Restart a couple of times.

Is this a Quad-Core Processor?;

If a bit old, then It may be time for a new device. Multitasking is a bit up there with virtual meetings, which is why you would want to use a Quad-Core Processor. For Intel, i5 or i7 loop are quad core processors. So, if you have a dual-core processor (i3), then that means your Mac is not made to handle such momentum.

Revealing the Processor:

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: About This Mac...
  3. View: Processor

My airpod pro issues occur when they are connected to my iMac during a virtual meeting. The interference theory on the surface is a good one since I typically have my iPhone and MacBook Pro nearby along with the wireless router. But, why then does this problem only occur with virtual meetings and not when listening to music or podcasts? I have tried turning off Bluetooth on the phone and laptop but that does not seem to solve it.

One other theory I am pursuing is processor overload. When these meetings occur I often have a lot open and running. Perhaps the two-way communication over Bluetooth is too much for my 7-year old iMac given everything else that's going on.

Yes, it's got a 3.1 GHz Quad-Core i5. I definitely need a new device (or do I just want a new device : )) But seriously, the older Bluetooth module handling a keyboard, mouse, and two air pods is probably too much. Every once in a while my mouse disconnects too so, yes, its time for a new desktop. Wish Apple would offer the 24" iMac with an M-1 Pro.
