Receive through iCloud?

Can one receive as well as send through one's own iCloud account? Someone wants to send me a file that is too big to send as an attachment to an email. I get the feeling that this other person is not familiar with cloud services. I have an iCloud account. I can open a folder in iCloud Drive and allow the other person access to what I put in there. But could the other person then put something into my iCloud Drive so that I can then receive it?

Welcome, R_55a, to Apple Support Communities!

Yes, you can both send and receive via your iCloud email account.

You can also send links to iCloud documents, for files with the appropriate security settings.

Of course, you can receive such, as well.

If you send a link to an iCloud directory, someone with that link can save a file to that directory, if the security settings allow that.

The advantage of using iCloud email for sending large files is that Apple Mail creates “dummy” links to the files, and those links are only valid for a limited time (30 days, or some such).

The sender doesn’t even need to send such an email to a person’s iCloud email address.
