MacBook has stopped displaying thumbnails

I have no idea why, but suddenly my MacBook is refusing to show thumbnails. Any files created before the 17th of Feb are fine and all display with thumbnails. Any new files created after the 17th of Feb just have an icon. It's really frustrating and is preventing me from getting anything done quickly as I cannot find the files I need without opening each one.

I've checked the "view -> Show view Options -> show icon preview" and it is ticked. I tried unticking it reticking, but that didn't work. It only changed the files from before the 17th of Feb...

It's really frustrating, and I don't know how to fix it!

Can anyone help?

Hello!

It sounds like your Mac is not displaying thumbnails correctly. We'll do our best to help out.

Given the information, you worked through the following: Change view options in the Finder on Mac

However, you still do not see the new thumbnails, it only changed the older thumbnails.

At this point, we'd make sure you've backed things up and have updated to the latest macOS version:

Update macOS on Mac

If so, we'd test it out using safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac

Booting there is slower than normal. It will also prevent some apps and processes from working. After booting to safe mode test the issue in the Finder. Then go to the Apple menu > Restart to exit safe mode.

If the issue continues after this, then it would be best to connect with Apple Support: Get Support

Wishing you well, take care.
