apple watch hands over calls immediately to iphone

If i make, or receieve, a call on my apple watch series 7 (cellular), it immediately hands over the call to my iphone. why is that?

id prefer if when i make or receieve a call on my apple watch it stayed there since i made the call from that device.

is that by (some stupid) design? or is something off with my device?

if i manually hand over the call back to the apple watch it stays there for that call, but next time its back to handing it over to the iphone.

so, to be clear, disabling hand off IS NOT a solution since i want to be able to use the feature. i just want it to stay on the device where i make the call (or receive it) until i myself choose to move it to another device.

reading your answer makes me think i was unclear in my description of the issue.

but, ive recently found out that it only happens when the airpods are connected to the iphone.

so here goes my explanation again, with the new information. perhaps its by design...

if i get a call or make a call AND the airpods are connected to my iphone AND the iphone is in close proximity (bluetooth) or connected to the same wifi, the call is immediately handed over to the iphone.

if the airpods are disconnected from the iphone, the call stays on the apple watch (speakers or airpods, depending if the airpods are connected).

If i connect the airpods to the apple watch AND the iphone, the call goes to the iphone as well.

So, as long the airpods are connected to the iphone, no matter if its connected to the apple watch or not, the call always are handed over immediately to the iphone, if the iphone is "in range" (i.e bluetooth and/or wifi)

and to answer some of your questions..

no, theres nothing wrong with the cellular provider and the connections is fine.

no theres nothing that are on "silent".

and handoff should be on as i said i wanted to use it. but sending something over to another device automatically when making the call (or recieving) from one device is just plain dumb. if i wanted to make the call from the iphone (or recieve it), i would have used that device from the beginning.

Hi naumburg,

Re: it immediately hands over the call to my iphone. why is that?

Have you checked out the problem with the carrier / call-provider ?

Wondering if you immediately raise your wrist when you hear the call, and want to answer it.

(If the iPhone is nearby, iPhone and Watch may both ring, and both be available to answer.)

Could the Watch be on "Silent" ?

or

Would this article help ?

Eg: When a call comes in, the caller is identified and you’re asked if you want to answer the call.

Re: or is something off with my device?

Wondering which settings are in use, on iPhone, on Watch, and with Handoff.

Eg:

Check the cellular set up on Apple Watch:

(To turn your cellular connection on or off, swipe up from the watch face to open Control Center.

Tap the green cellular button , then turn Cellular on or off.)

says: "Handoff is on by default."

Eg: If you set up multiple cellular plans using an iPhone with Dual SIM,

you can add multiple lines to your Apple Watch with cellular,

then choose the one your watch uses when it connects to cellular networks.

Note: Each iPhone cellular plan must be provided by a supported carrier and must support Apple Watch cellular.
