how to copy highest resolution iPhotos to Finder

When I drag selected photos from Photos into a desktop folder to make a photo book, all the copied images are below 1 MB in size. How do I get the original sized photo?

You have to use the Export command to save the full high resolution image files to the Desktop. Dragging from Photos will just save the the preview of the edited version, which can have a reduced resolution.

  • Select the photos in Photos.
  • Then use the command "File > Export > Export unmodified Original" to save the original or "File > Export > Export ... photos" to save the edited version. When exporting the edited versions click the "^" to the right of "Kind: JPEG" to reveal the advanced size controls and select the original size.
