Headphones no longer work to increase or lower volume

New or old headphones no longer work to increase or lower volume, or to stop playing on my iPhone 6 SE. Thank you in advance.

Before you go back to the store, see if updating your iPhone helps. The latest iOS version is 15.3.1: Get the latest software updates from Apple. This will ensure your iPhone has the latest bug fixes and security enhancements. If you notice this behavior with a specific app, make sure it's up to date as well.

I took my iphone into the Apple store a couple days ago already to have it cleaned. It was because when I called or was called, the other person couldn't hear my voice. Maybe I should make another appt...?
