Iphone Contact not appearing

I am running 15.3.1 on an iPhone and "On My iPhone" contacts are not being listed when I go to contacts and try to select them as the default account. My profile pics associated with my contacts and names associated with some numbers have also disappeared. Any advice?

Contacts Some of my contacts are not visible or missing. When I try to re-enter it shows that the contact is already there and I cannot save it.

When you open Contacts, tap in the upper left corner to ensure you are seeing All Groups selected.

There is no option to select iPhone contact there. Only my account contacts are listed.
