windows 11 - Itunes missing commands and components

Hello,

I recently received a placement PC laptop with Windows 11. My current PC laptop has Windows 10. I am going through the steps to ensure I have all software loaded on the replacement.

I installed iTunes from the windows store. However, there is no associated "Apple Software Update" program (which is supposed to install automatically). I'm also missing the "Check for updates" command on the Help menu.

I have verified that all preference settings on the Win 11 install are the same as my Win 10 install. I have verified sign in and the computer is authorized.

Are there any steps to resolve this aside from deleting and reinstalling Itunes?

Thanks!

Windows, Windows 10

Does that also mean I do not need the "Apple Software Update" program?

To be honest, I don't know, but I suspect it does mean that it's not required.

If your new iTunes works, don't mess with it.

I'm trying to make sure there's nothing missing before I relinquish my old laptop.

Okay, well, call me pedantic if you wish, but how about a backup?

Wise advice is that you maintain a backup of your music. Copy the entire Music folder (containing your music files and iTunes control files) to an external drive. A portable device such as an iPod, iPad etc. is not a suitable backup.

@thefiend That's not pendatic, LOL! All the music is on an external drive, all my existing data files are backed up on the cloud, etc., even my hard drive iphone backups have copies on the cloud. I won't lose anything.

Itunes boots up ok on the new machine. I haven't yet tried to connect the external library or my iphone to it yet because I was trying to ensure it was properly installed first.

I find that Itunes on windows can be a bit twitchy so just being extra cautious. Also the replacement laptop is a refurb supplied via warranty and doesn't have a long window for any issues I might find, so being extra cautious for that reason too.
