Apple 4K TV cutting out

When my Apple 4K TV is connected to my Klipsch 1200 sound bar I have full sound and audio.

I use a projector that does not have HDMI ARC connected to the ARC output on the sound bar.

This for the most part works, however there is a very annoying drop out of the video which causes

the Projector to search its inputs till it finds it again and then I have video. I first thought this was

a bandwidth issue from WiFi. However I connected the Apple 4K TV directly to the projector and

the issue seems to be gone. However no sound from the bar.

I am looking into an HDMI Audio Extractor but I am wondering if the issue is actually some kind of

problem with the Apple 4K TV? It is about 6 months old and other than that has been operating

fine.

Any ideas?

I quickly looked up your soundbar and its nice specs suggest your configuration should be fine (assuming both your HDMI cables are of good quality, v2.1 standard and not too long).

I suggest you'll want to:

  • connect up the ATV4K, the soundbar and the projector as you described.
  • configure the projector to it's maximum capabilities (enable 4K, HDR, HDR10, Dolby Vision, etc)
  • Go into ATV4K Settings > Video and Audio > and under VIDEO select Reset Video Settings.
  • Do an HDMI cable check, then depending your projector's abilities, enable HDR.
  • You may see additional options regarding a higher quality gamma setting, Dolby Vision, etc. Turn on what you can. Your goal is to get the ATV4K set to the best video format that looks good on your projector...
  • ...and stay there. Resist the urge to turn on Match Format. Try leaving it off, thereby allowing the ATV4K to use its fancy smarts to adapt all screens, apps, movies and content to your projector's best mode.

If you turn Match Content on, your projector will frequently pause and go blank while adapting to different dynamic color ranges and/or framerates. Chances are it'll be difficult to see the benefits of these distracting mode changes.

I normally suggest finishing with the calibration/Color Balance process using an iPhone, but that might be tricky with a projector :-) ?

Hope this helps. Let us know how it works out.

Thank you for the tip on Match Content. That seems to have made the difference. I watched

all last evening and none of the drop outs and searching about. Not 100% convinced yet but

I would say well over 90%!

I will spend another evening watching with projector and if successful I think we will have

solved this issue, without spending more money on gadgets.
