how to stop bluetooth from connecting to car automatically after disconnecting

When I am in my car where I am connected to Bluetooth, it keeps switching to the cars Bluetooth when I am using my AirPods. When I press disconnect, it keeps reconnecting and disconnecting my AirPods. I resort to pressing forget this device everytime this happens but it gets really inconvenient having to reconnect my iPhone to my car everytime. How can I prevent my phone from constantly connecting to my car after I press disconnect? Thank you everybody
