How do I get off of the legacy contact if it was put on for me?

Speak to the person who designated you as their legacy contact, as only they can remove you. Alternatively, you could do nothing. Being designated as a legacy contact does not obligate you to do anything in the event of their death, and they can designate more than one contact. You should probably be forthcoming with them though regarding your intent to do nothing.
