MacBook Pro not installing MacOS Monterey

I have a early 2015 MacBook Pro 256gb. I have reset the entire MacBook to factory settings and reinstalled MacOS (Big Sur). No extra apps installed and the MacBook is just like it’s out of the box from the factory. It shows I only have around 12gb of storage left and it won’t install Monterey. There is nothing else I can clear off the MacBook to clear space. Any ideas?

How to cancel macOs installation during its installation? I upgraded to Monterey but the process couldn't be completed since my mac doesn't have enough free space left. It seems like it's stuck on half way through. When I boot my mac in Recovery mode, it says "Reinstall Monterey" instead of my previously installed system. So I can't choose to reinstall my old macOs system in Recovery mode anymore. Now once I turn my mac on it jumps into the login screen, and after entering my password as usual, it will comeback to the macOs installing screen (with black screen and Apple logo, stuck-at-the-middle loading bar and "estimating time left"). How can I stop it from jumping into Monterey installation so I can make a bootable installation with another operating system that my mac can handle? How do I quit this loop?

I have it figure out. The SSD was partitioned so I had to delete the partitions then reset to factory settings.

 menu > about this Mac > Storage ...

you may need to run through Apple menu -> About This Mac -> Software update first and finish the updates before running the Monterey installer.

Straight from the factory with Big Sur installed would use up under 100GB.

¿did you used to have Windows installed?

Time Machine, iCloud, OneDrive all put temporary files.

iPad and iPhone backups also puts a sync file.

No, Windows was never installed. Can’t figure out why so much room is being taken on the MacBook when the system has been reset to factory.
