It will not start - Ipad A2200

Recently I won a storage auction. In the mist of a lot of Buffalo bills memorabilia I found an Ipad. I have never owned one before and there was no charger for it. When I turned the unit on ...nothing. I bought a fire wire ipad compatible charger and cord. The unit model is A2200. It seems that the unit will not charge. When I plug it in, I see a dead battery cell mid screen and the image of a white cord on screen coming from the home button. A small lighting bolt image is inbetween the dead battery image and the cord image.

After charging over night I noticed an apple icon mid screen. I can't get it to do anything. After a little the dead battery cell image reappears. I don't know what to do, like I said never owned an apple before.

Thank you for any help.

Help please
