Why doesn't my colored-highlighting pdf "markups"in iPad print in color?

I noticed that when I print a marked-up pdf from my iPad (via print function from the box w/arrow, i.e. share icon on the top) and it uses my HP Smart app (as a wifi network printer) to print via my HP OfficeJet 9010, it doesn't print any of the markups in color. It make the highlighting pen markups look light gray.

If I print the same pdf via my iMac, it works fine. It does so via Preview then via my HP listed printer, which is the same and ia also connected as a wifi network printer.)

I assume it may be a data transfer - comm issue between the iPad and the HP Smart app, but I wanted to see if anyone else has this issue with another printer before I signal this to HP or Apple.
