I can't update my software to 12.5.5
iPhone 5s, iOS 10

Are you certain that you have an iPhone 5s? I ask because you may have an iPhone 5 (without the s) and that model cannot be updated beyond iOS version 10.x.x.
To double check, open Settings ➡️ General ➡️ About ➡️ Model: Here you will find the model name of your iPhone.
