As with many of us, I had to go back to Mojave from Monterey. That has messed up my desktop Apple Mail App. So, the workaround has to be an install of AOL Mail on my MBP running Mojave. Tried going right to AOL, but the only Mac download will not run.
Any thoughts?

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

Basically, Monterey chewed-up Apple Mail's Preference Panes. They are nowhere to be found on Mojave. So, I am unable to use Preferences in Apple Mail. I've tried other Apps, such as Blue Mail, but they arrive with their own problems.

Now, a comment on how cumbersome 'Security' has complicated our lives... The more paranoid we are programmed to be, those serving in 'Security' for the most part, live in the shadows of fear. We are put through hurdle after hurdle of fools' errands to 'protect' ourselves. The immediate result is that getting through the Password mania, slows our electronic computer use down to a crawl.
Without buying yet another APP (as the Apple App Store prefers us to do), there must be a simpler way. We buy our new computers for the illusion of speed. Security, breaks the illusion.

A bit more: Apple keeps steering us to buy new items from its APP Store rather than to provide what once worked well. It is a rather nasty way to squeeze more profit from those of us who value the Apple experience as originally designed.

I am still unable to download Apple Mail to run on Mojave. Is there a workaround? PS: I neither want nor need AOL added Security. It is a pretext to get us to pay for a service that still is free.
