Thank you so much dbsneddon. I have been trying everything!!! I have having with a lot of sites load etc and it was simply that I had accidently changed the date on my computer.

I had the same problem, was getting a popup error window at almost every website i visited:

Safari can't verify the identity of the website "www.facebook.com"

Very, VERY annoying. Completely resetting Safari fixed it--but only temporarily.

Now the problem is back, and all my passwords, forms, etc. are erased (from the reset). Doubly annoying. Is there any way to simply turn off site verification or something..? I don't really give a sh-t whether Safari can verify the identity of a website. I verify them myself as they start to load.

My 'Set Date and Time Automatically" was already checked, but have been having exact same identical issue when browsing sites: "Safari can't identify the identity of website www.facebook.com" as previous posts.

I decided to check the date/time on my wireless/router, and found it was incorrect.  Changed it to correctly match my OS X 10.9.2 date/time.  Which appears to have resolved issue (for now).  Don't understand why this would work, but so far so good.  Throwing it out there for others to try.

Hpeosj, that sounds like it might work. The problem must be in the router. As it affects all iDevices connected to the network. I took a different route to get the problem fixed. I got the Apple Airport Extreme, replacing my linksys router. I have used it for about a week and no problems. Also, my old router was capping my speed at 28Mbps, now I am getting 58Mpbs, I have blast from Comcast which is 50Mbps.

For all people coming to this thread after July 26th 2014:

There was an issue with a DigiCert certificate that expired and some sites are not being trusted.

Please follow the instructions in this post: http://blog.digicert.com/expired-intermediate-certificate/

Also I had to install a custom certificate when I resolved the original issue, it was asking me for another certificate that wasn't trusted, so I downloaded the new cert from DigiCert website. You can check in that blog post comments how I resolved it.

    Good luck!

After trying all the possible suggested solutions from deleting plist files to keychain repairs to resetting safari to removing extensions to resetting dates and times..... that never worked.....very frustrating and annoying really. But what struck me most was that the pop ups came up not only for safari but also iTunes and even contacts too. Also got the same pop ups not only on my macbook pro but also on iPhone and iPad too. then i asked what was common to all three and it was the router. I changed routers and not a single pop up cam up again. Smashed the router immediately.

How do you locate a solution to a problem here?

  • Calisha46 Level 1 (0 points)

I had this problem for about a month and stumbled onto a fix that seems to be working. There was a check box in my Netgear router settings that said "automatically adjust for Daylight Savings Time" and it was unchecked. I checked the box and unplugged the router and then plugged it in again, also restarted my macbook and so far, no more warnings. It's been about a week now and it's still working.
