We don’t have sufficient information to reset your security questions.

I need to change my password, someone has logged into my Apple ID account which has been pretty much dormant for 10 years. I log in, and get asked security questions I did not write down the answers to - no problem, I can just reset them. Unfortunately I get the above answer when I try to reset the security questions.

I need to get into my apple account pronto, so I can change the password. Any help would be appreciated.

I do not have an apple device. Last time I did was 10 years ago - so 2 factor authentication (that presumably requires an apple device) is not possible.

There is chat available - apparently the 'I forgot my Apple ID verification questions' issue is not worth anyone's time - so I told Apple that my account was hacked (as it has been) and that got me to a chat page - hopefully the chat link here will help the next guy.

So silly.

This is pretty much where I am now:

I have had the same problem. Set up an account probably over 10 years ago, no idea about answers to the security questions or password. Managed to reset the password, but when signing in it asks for 2x security question answers. In knowing neither, it offers an option to reset the security questions. But low and behold, it asks for a security question to reset your security questions -> wow Apple that is the most incredible example of idiocy.

Thinking cooler heads would prevail over the phone I called their support centre, and what did they ask... what are the answers to your security questions!!!! I asked him point blank, if I do not know the answers to the security questions to reset my security questions, and I am the sole user of this account, then surely you are pointedly locking up my account in perpetuity, to which the service agent said yes I would never be able to use the account again unless I can remember the answers to my security questions.

Phenomenal incompetency of the highest order Apple, for one of the world's richest companies you would have thought they could have employed some logic.

Maybe nothing has changed in 5 years? I hope not....

The only significant change I can find is that the helpful poster who posted links to a form and contact information... well neither now work. So maybe I am worse off now that 5 years ago?

I had the privilege of discussing my account in Chat for an hour - the first person went around on 'just reset the questions - and after I sent a screenhsot of the reset process showing that it was not asking me to reset them.... he dropped out.

The second guy put me through to a phone call with a security specialist. When I asked about the relative wisdom of requiring a person who is resetting their security questions to answer a security question when they have forgotten all of the security questions... his response was 'I am not at liberty to discuss that' Rather tidy.

I asked about what I can do now that my account is breached. the response was 'If there was payment info associated with the account, it is expired by now'... Great but that is not the question. I need to get in. Can I shut it down? 'No you need to log in to shut it down'. Great can I use the recovery email and password I have to do this? 'No you need to be able to answer at least one security question' Aright - I could brute force my way through this, if the system would ask. I am not asked for the answer to a security question, Why is that? 'Either the account has locked you out, or it is just too old and it will not recover - try to do this again in 12 hours and see if it lets you try to get in again. If not, then it is not coming back. It has been permanently secured.' HAHAHA! permanently secured.... except someone is in the account right now!! What are my options?

'I would suggest you set your emails to port anything from this account to spam and abandon it'

Beautiful.

Gotta love Apple.
