The Fall will entirely detected by the Apple Watch. The distance between the iPhone and the Apple Watch comes into play when the Apple Watch attempts to make the emergency call. If you have a cellular Apple Watch, then your iPhone does not have to be close to the Apple Watch at all. If you have a GPS + WiFi (No Cellular) Apple Watch, then the IPhone must be:

  1. WIthin a Bluetooth connection distance. This is normally within 30 Feet. OR
  2. Your Apple Watch must be connected to a Wi-Fi Network and Wi-Fi Calling must be set to ON on your iPhone.
