Fake Text from Known Contact

I just received a text, ostensibly, from a known Contact/Friend with a spam/phishing type message about "mortgage relief" including a suspicious link. I can see legitimate text conversations with this friend in the past months. I did call him to ask if he knew anything about this and, of course, he did not originate the message. I took a screen shot of the message and then deleted it. What can I/should I do at this point?

DON’T reset all your passwords. That’s a ridiculous idea. If you didn’t click anything in the message there’s nothing to be concerned about. Look at the message very carefully, especially the sender’s address. If it’s an email address it was spoofed (very easy to do); just forget about it. If it is your friend’s actual phone number and it is an SMS message (not an iMessage) your friend should contact their carrier, as it could be a case of an illegal “SIM swap”.

The bottom like is the problem is on your friend’s end, not yours.
