How can I delete a color (I previously added to my pallet) from the pallet of Pages Version 11.1 (7031.0.102)?

How can I delete a color (I previously added to my pallet) from the pallet of Pages for Mac Version 11.1 (7031.0.102)? I've tried lots of things but they don't seem to work.

The easiest way to delete a colour is to drag it into the bin.

The trick is to get the orange highlight around the cells so they can be deleted. This is what worked for me, which I think is sort of what you posted in your first post: Use the eyedropper on an empty cell so the big cell is white. Drag the white big cell into a small cell. This enables the orange highlight allowing colours to be deleted.

A slight variation is that if one of the cells is already white then you can just click on that colour to make the big cell white, but you still need to drag the big cell over to enable the orange highlight.

A very strange method but it does work.

Select the colour by clicking on its cell:

Press Delete:

Selection, in this case moved from the now-empty third cell in row 2 to the (also empty) cell to its left.

If the two steps above do not result in the colour being deleted from this palette, an alternative would be to go for appearance without actually emptying the cell:

Select an object.

Set its Fill to "White Fill."

In the color picker, this will make the larger square left of the user palette show the same colour (White) as the selected object.

Click in that larger box to select the fill colour it contains, then drag that colour from the large square to the palette cell you want to 'erase' and drop the white fill there.

Downside: The palette cell now looks empty, but actually contains 'white', making it possible to accidentally fill an object (or text) with that colour.

Hmmm…

Looking back at my post above, I see that my

Press Delete

instruction is almost invisible between the 'before' and 'after' screen shots of the Color Picker.

Here's a repeat of those instructions:

1: Click once on the cell containing the colour to be removed to select that cell.

Press Delete.

Done.

Note that the selection has moved to the (empty) cell to the left of the one that had contained the now deleted colour.

(The larger box still contains the colour as this colour is still selected in the pencil box.)

Barry

Depends what you include in "sort of."

Here's what I actually wrote:

First post:

Select the colour by clicking on its cell:

Expanded in second post:

Click once on the cell containing the colour to be removed to select that cell.

Both refer to placing the pointer on the third cell in the second row of small cells to the right of the dropper. The result (orange highlight to the boundary of that cell, indicating it is selected) is shown in the first image. No dragging was involved.

The second (and last) step was the same in both posts: Press delete.

As noted above, the man reason for that second post was to make the 'Press Delete' instruction more visible.

Barry
