When typing emails I had options for bold, underline, strike-through and italics. The italics option is no longer selectable. What happened? It appears in the list but is not active.
How do I get it back?

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

What email app are you using? If it is other than Mail, you might try reinstalling it
