How to delete a partition without losing data.

Im not sure if I did this correctly.  It would be great to hear some advice here.  Im using Mojave.  My boot drive had 2 partitions but was continuing to run out of space on the boot partition.  I erased the other partion.  I selected the second partition and click on the minus (–) button to delete it.

These photos represent how my drive looks now in Disk utility. Does this look ok?

I don't know what this means so i just ignored it.

This is what the partition look like. I can still see how the old partition was originally set up. It was 500G split into 200 and 300.

Does the shaded area represent where my orig boot drive was?

Thank you in advance.

Looks like you did it myFriend. :)

disk5 is generally the 5th Disk seen by the OS.

Containers is what APFS uses pretty much in place of the old Partitions, a container does hold a set size like a old partition does, all the free space is available to any other APFS "partition", they just use it as needed.

Thank you BDAgua for helping me verify that I followed the right procedure.  I guess the second step that I quoted above was for older operating systems.  When I deleted the other partition, it just automatically created a single partition for me.  The 5th disk thing is perfectly normal.

Last question.  When using a new drive, is it ok to go into “get info” and just enable ‘read and write’ for three users (system, wheel and everyone.)  No one else is on my network (I hope.)

In my top original screenshot it shows “Container disk5.”  None of my other drives (partitions and non) have this designation.  Anybody know what this means?

Second Step- Drag the bottom right corner all the way to the bottom of the pane and then click Apply. You once again have a single partition that consumes the entire drive space. And, best of all, you haven’t lost a single file on it.

When following instructions based on others that have tried this-  there was this 'Second Step' that they took that I didn’t.  It may be that they were using older OS.  I can however hold down the option button and a handle bar apearts that would let me adjust the pie graph.  I think I am finished and did this all correctly.  It was simple.  What do you think?
