Column of Dead Pixels

A column of dead pixels suddenly appeared on my display. Is there any way to get rid of it besides replacing the screen? What might have caused this problem? I am using a Macbook pro that I purchased in early 2008, and it is no longer under warranty.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Pity you didn't buy the Applecare extended warranty - the screen would have been replaced free of charge.

It's unlikely that there is any economic way of fixing the screen. I would ask at the nearest Apple Service Centre the cost of replacing the screen. You might consider the expense worthwhile though I personally would look at replacing it with a new machine if possible. The new specs are better in most respects than your machine.
