why don't jpg icons show the image anymore?

Over the years I've noticed that icons increasingly don't display the image in the Mac OS. I have this problem on several Macs, as in three Mac Pros and a MacBook Pro, running Monterey and Big Sur. The screen capture is from one running Monterey.

Mac used to be THE computer for graphics professionals, but the OS is just turning to garbage. Why is this happening? What happened to the Mac OS? I have one Windows machine in the office and it shows icons consistently.

These images were taken from my iphone. Transfered from my iphone 13 to my Mac Desktop using Airdrop. But regardless, I see this all the time now with Tif and JPG files.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, these images were captured on a different device. As mentioned, it was an iPhone 13. This is a Mac Pro, running Monterey. I would expect that a photo from a new Apple phone would be compatible with an up to day Apple Mac Pro. In other words, I would expect that Apple is compatible with itself.

That being said, I have opened and saved some of them, and the problem remains. But also it's all media. It's movies, jpg, tif PNG. Apple is becoming terrible at displaying visual icons. These same files when transferred to a Windows 10 machine, all display with icon previews, or thumbnails. So it's not the files.

I don't believe this is a problem with a specific device. I think this is a widespread problem, based on owning multiple Mac and Windows machines. Here's another directory:
