Macbook pro 14" M1 overheats when charging

Hello all, I just bought the new MacBook pro 14'' M1 with 16gb ram, and every time I am putting it on charge it overheats a lot. Anyone facing the same issue please? Can someone please advise me what should I do.

Kindly note, that when charging the Macbook pro is on a flat surface with nothing blocking its air vents.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 12.0

Welcome Hans008,

It is normal for the Mac to warm up a bit while charging in average temperatures. With that said, for issues with your Mac getting warm while charging, we'd recommend reviewing: Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

Are there any processes that are happening when this occurs? Learn how to check: View energy consumption in Activity Monitor on Mac

In the Activity Monitor app  on your Mac, click Energy (or use the Touch Bar).

To display more columns, choose View > Columns, then choose the columns you want to show.

What processes is running the most when charging? Are you using the Apple branded charger? You mentioned recently purchasing this MacBook Pro, how recently? Did you restore from a backup or set it up as new?

Hoping to hear back, take care.

Hi there Hans008,

If your Mac is getting warmer than expected while charging, we would recommend following these tips:

• Make sure that you’ve installed all Mac software updates.
• Use your Mac notebook where the ambient temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C). Don’t leave your Mac notebook in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range. You should also use your Mac notebook where the relative humidity is between 0% and 95% (noncondensing).
• Use your Mac notebook on a stable work surface that allows for good ventilation. Don’t use your Mac notebook in your bed, on a pillow, or under bedding.
• Don’t put anything over the keyboard.
• If your Mac notebook has ventilation openings, don't put anything into them.
• Use only Apple-authorized power adapters.

This information can be found here: Keep your Mac notebook within acceptable operating temperatures

We hope that helps!

Hello Destiny241,

Hope you doing fine and thank you very much for your reply.

So I bought the MacBook Pro M1 14" on the 8 March 2022, I set it up as new and am actually using its own charger.

Am experiencing this issue only while charging, I can hardly put my hands on the trackpad.

Everything has been updated, and I am actually on 12.3 also please note that my MacBook is kept on a flat surface while being charged, I have noticed that the power adapter become extremely hot while charging too.

I will send you a picture today showing the processes while charging, the CPU and memory usage.

Thanks you very much for your support,

Hans

Hello Ben,

Thanks you so much for your reply, I have done everything that you mentioned above, but the problem is the same.

Its only occurring while charging and more specifically while charging between (0 to 80%).

I will install TG Pro so as I can monitor the inner temperature, will it be ok or do you recomend something else?

Thanks for your kind support,

Hans
