Click on cancel , as shown in your screen shot , open system preferences > Apple ID > iCloud Drive > options from here you can uncheck the box of desktops and documents .

You have clicked on apple icon on top left menu bar > about this Mac > storage > manage > recommendations .

Store all files, photos and messages in iCloud and save space on your Mac. You’ll see one or more of the following options, based on how you’ve set up storage management in iCloud, Photos and Messages.

  • Desktop and Documents: Store all the files from your Desktop and Documents folders in iCloud Drive and optimise storage by keeping only recently opened files on your Mac when storage space is needed.
  • Photos: Store your photo library in iCloud and optimise storage by keeping only optimised photos and videos on your Mac when storage space is needed.
  • Messages: Store all messages and attachments in iCloud and keep only recently opened items on your Mac when storage space is needed.

You can turn off storage management by modifying the related settings in iCloud preferences, Photos preferences and Messages preferences. See Store your desktop and documents in iCloud Drive

In mac the desktops and documents can't be checked / unchecked from two locations .

Hello Fady-Nahlawy,

In order to turn off Desktop and Documents being stored in iCloud, follow these steps:

1. From your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences. Click Apple ID, then click iCloud. On macOS Mojave or earlier, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click iCloud.
2. Next to iCloud Drive, click Options.
3. Deselect Desktop & Documents Folders.
4. Click Done.

These steps can be found here: Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive

We hope that helps!

As you mentioned - but I tried to move the Desktop and Documents folders from the iCloud Drive to the Trash and empty the Trash before the documents appear again and it worked.

For what reason you are trying to delete the inbuilt desktop and document box to the trash , they won't be emptied from trash as system integration process is protecting them About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support
