Apple Watch 7 not consistently reading HR

During runs, when biking, or just working out, my Series 7 is very inconsistent when capturing HR. Mostly it does but there are still times when it doesn't. I've varied where on the wrist and followed Apple's guidelines about where and how snug. Even when it is on tight enough to leave a mark, it frequently won't get a reading. Fair skin with no other markings or coloring. Had a similar problem with my Series 5 but this is much worse. Almost want my 5 back.

Start with a good fit. Even under ideal conditions, Apple Watch may not be able to get a reliable heart rate reading every time for everybody. And for a small percentage of users, various factors may make it impossible to get any heart rate reading at all. But there are things you can do to help Apple Watch get the most consistent and best heart rate readings possible. Learn what else affects your reading. Thank you for your reply. I have previously viewed all of the links you highlighted and followed their instructions. "Snug but comfortable" is frequently insufficient and the band has to be pulled very tight to get a reading. I sometimes have to stop biking/running and select the "Heart Rate" function to get a reading and then return to the workout to continue. As noted earlier, I had this problem with my 5 but this seems to be more of an issue with the 7. Other than this, I am very pleased with the watch. I guess I'll just live with it.
