MacBook Air Problems

I've owned my MacBook Air for maybe six months. I honest-to-goodness cannot stand it! The Apple M1 chip was supposed to be "lightning fast," and I haven't found that at all. There are many things that don't work as well (or at all) like my MacBook Pro. I've looked through the Forums and have found no solutions. I've been putting off calling AppleCare because the issues are so numerous, but I guess I will have no choice. I'm so disappointed because I love Apple products, but I'd never buy another one of these.

Anyone else have major issues with this product?

All right, I can understand your frustration. There are a lot of silly little troubleshooting tactics you could use, but those can get tedious. If you have a bit of free time, restoring your MacBook Air to update to the latest macOS is the most likely thing to work. This will reset your settings, remove any malware, and make sure you get the latest bug fixes on a clean slate.

Back up your system, and then use this article How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support. When the recovery screen comes up, choose 'install a new copy of macOS Monterey'.

Hope this helps!

To run disk utilities, you need to go to your recovery volume. How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility - Apple SupportYou can also reinstall Monterey from recovery. It will install the most current version and will not remove any of your personal file and apps. If your having trouble running the reinstall from WIFI , see if you can do it with an ethernet cable straight off your router/modem.You can also download and run Etrecheck. Then post the systems report in here so we can see if there is problem we can help you with.https://etrecheck.com/

Calling Apple Support is always an option, especially if you are uncomfortable, but from what I can see on your screenshot it appears you may have misunderstood what I suggested that you do.

The link involves reseting your computer, so you shouldn't be downloading macOS from the App Store if you reset your computer. it should be in the recovery screen. This tells me you need to follow the steps in the link I sent.

Hope this helps! #psalm93

What kind of connection issues? WIFI dropping off. NO WIFI, intermittent WIFI. You can check you WIFI by holding down the option key while clicking on the WIFI icon and using Open Wireless Diagnostics. If you don't understand the results, post it in here.

My Messages don't work properly; if I send an attachment, no one can open them. And aren't I supposed to see Messages on my AirBook when they come in on my iPhone? My photos don't sync from my iPhone anymore. Siri pops up when I call her, but disappears as soon as I ask a question. This is a new issue, and yes, I've checked my settings. Maps don't work properly. It won't recognize my home location, even though I've set it as such. (My old MacBook Pro had no problem, and neither does my iPhone.) Search doesn't work in Calendar. And I know it sounds trite, but my FaceBook is not working properly at all. Everything across the board is slow to load. My Notifications is telling me there is a Software Update, but when I click on it, it just keeps spinning and spinning. I'm so frustrated! I appreciate your reaching out, and any help you can offer.

Well.... I backed up and tried to install Monterey. The FIRST time it took three hours to (attempt to) download, and the first pic is the result I got. The SECOND time, it told me it would be 20 HOURS. I think have a more serious issue (Ya think?!), and I need to call AppleCare. I really appreciate you trying to help me, but this goes beyond anything I'm comfortable doing on my own. Thank you!

Hey, Zac --

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I've been having connectivity issues with my ISP, and I don't want to get in the middle of a download or install only to have the thing quit on me. I'm hoping the issue will be resolved soon, and I will indeed try what you have suggested.

Thank you so much!

It's my T-Mobile Gateway, Ginger. It goes in and out constantly lately (since January), and effects everything in the house, not just my Mac. It's also throughout my community; we're all having the same issues with the same ISP. We've all been told it's the 5G thing that they're all changing to, and it's supposed to be resolved by the end of the month. I'll believe it when I see it.

I live in the middle of orange groves and cattle ranches, in an area that has just zoomed into the 21st Century with technology, so choices are limited. I've gotten very good at plugging and unplugging.

I'll do the diagnostics in the meantime. Thank you!

If the problem is with your provider. Then you'll have to wait till they fix it to have a stable connection. As when running an install or reinstall, part of it relies on a good internet connection. If it keeps dropping it can corrupt files. Or as you saw in one of your attempts drag on for hours. The Apple server has to reconnect and then find where it left off. The only other solution is to take your laptop to someplace that has a stable connection.
