Share Photos Library - Multiple Apple IDs

My wife and I each have Macs and iPhones with separate Apple IDs. Our adult son also has his own apple id, his own computer and devices. But there are times when we want photos to all be part of the same stream, like from a family vacation. And I want the original full size version, with all the metadata, everything, not some proxy version... And then there are times when our 3 accounts can remain separate. If he's off partying with friends, or I take work photos, the other doesn't need to see them. It should be easy to tag what goes where and just work. We used to have 1 iCloud account, but then other things like your name in your phonebook (Me) always was messed up... I would set (Me) on my phone and my wife's would mirror... So then everything else that apple ties to that like your travel to the office was off!

So there's not a great solution one way or another I feel, but there should be. Apple whole families now have phones and macs… and some contacts, calendar events, photos, etc are common, and other things are separate. This shouldn't be impossible to fix and just make work but in searching it seems to still remain a problem, this needs to be fixed!

Hi there Dbirling,

You'll want to use the Shared Albums feature to share photos with others:

Shared Albums let you share photos and videos with just the people you choose — and they can add their own photos, videos, and comments.

Turn on Shared Albums
- On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos, then turn on Shared Albums.
- On your Mac, open the Photos app. From the menu bar at the top of the screen, choose Photos > Preferences. Click the iCloud tab, then select Shared Albums.
- On your Apple TV, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > iCloud and turn on Shared Albums.
- On your Windows PC, open iCloud for Windows and select Photos. Click the Options button to verify that Shared Albums is on, then click Apply. Learn more about sharing albums with iCloud for Windows.

Create a new shared album
1. Go to the Albums tab and tap the Add button .
2. Tap New Shared Album.
3. Give the shared album a name, then tap Next.
4. Choose people to invite from your contacts, or type an email address or iMessage phone number.
Tap Create.

Invite more people
1. In Albums, select a shared album that you created.
2. Go to the People tab.
3. Tap Invite People.
4. Enter the names of people that you want to share this album with.
5. Tap Add.

You can even share albums with friends and family who don't use iCloud. Just open a shared album that you created, go to the People tab, and turn on Public Website. Your photos publish to a website that anyone can see in an up-to-date web browser.

You'll find this information here: How to share albums in Photos on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Take care!
