how do I reset my iphone password when through itunes

I am unable to remember my iPhone code and therefore cannot access my iPhone. After doing prompts via apple support, once I get into my iTunes via our PC, I am unable to get past the phase on my iPhone where it is a picture of a charging cable, with an arrow, pointing toward a computer. iTunes has been updated but there is no listings of products we use, such as my iPhone, to be able to continue the troubleshooting phase. Any suggestions?
