iPad Pro split screen freezes

Every time I try to use my iPadPro as an extension of my MacBook Air screen it freezes after minutes.

If I close whatever app I'm using on the iPadPro screen, it doesn't disappear (so it's like the screen just doesn't register any info)

It's literally unusable. Is there a way to fix the issue?
