Macbook pro wont let my put the full recovery code in

I forgot my password. I have a recovery code. But it’s not allowing my to put the full code in.

Macbook forgot password The recovery key I generated through my iphone was 28 characters long. My macbook air can only take 24 characters, and I cannot delete the dashes when I type it in. What do I have to do to generate a 24 character code??? I'm locked out of my macbook air and it is also locked. The locked screen that comes up also won't accept the 28 character code with or without the dashes.

Please read If you forgot your Mac login password - Apple Support.

Using your FileVault Recovery Key is an option only if the login screen provides a specific prompt for it.
