I think my internal OS X disk drive is dead. What can I do to fix it or install a new one?

I think my internal OS X disk drive is dead. Its an early 2015 Macbook Air. It crashed in 2017 . I've had it in storage and recently powered it on. I made it work by downloading OS X El Capitan on an external flash drive. I've searched high and low for the internal drive. What can I do ? Do I install a new one?

Did you try and run disk utilities off the flash drive to see if your internal drive shows in utilities? If it does not show there then most likely your internal drive is dead. If you want it up and running then you would need a new drive.
