Auto-correcting to a non-existent word?

It’s already to my understanding that words like “iPhones” or “Johnsons” may get autocorrected to “iPhone’s” or “Johnson’s” with the added apostrophes. My question is this — why is the word “melodies” being corrected to “melodie’s” which is objectively not an English word, is not in the dictionary and is underlined red whenever it happens.

Is there any way to reverse this? I type very fast and depend on Auto-Correct too much to turn it off completely. I’ve already attempted resetting my keyboard dictionary. I could insert a text replacement but that would require me to intentionally misspell the word just so it can auto-correct to the correct spelling. If there’s no solution around this then this is very ridiculous on Apple’s part but I’m hoping there’s some option I don’t know about.

Hello vlxgold.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Try turning off Auto-Correction, then restart your iPhone and re-enable this feature to see if that helps out. To turn off Auto-Correction, navigate to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn off Auto-Correction. Then restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If you're using an iPhone X, 11, 12, or 13:

1.) Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2.) Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3.) To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

This resource also explains steps on how add a word or phrase you don't want corrected: Save keystrokes with text replacements on iPhone - Apple Support

1.) Go to Settings > General > Keyboard, then tap Text Replacement.
2.) Tap + at the top right, then enter your word or phrase in the Phrase field, but leave the Shortcut field blank.

Also, if you have any pending updates available, it would be a good idea to install them. Just in case, use the following resource for guidance on how to update your device: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

1.) Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2.) Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3.) Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4.) If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.
5.) Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

We hope this information is helpful. Cheers.
