I backed up my iphone 6s and now have a new 11 that I want to restore the backup on - I get a message that I have the wrong password but I had never changed the password.

Note: Backup password is not the same as Locked screen password (unless you use the same).
You can only restore from backup if you have the correct password.
Also note: After setting it up, you do not need the password doing encrypted backup.
